“Manusia Setengah Salmon” is a book written by Raditya Dika. The genre
of the book is nonfiction-comedy that most telling about the author’s own
experience which consists of 264 pages. As usually, the author often uses slang
languages as his typical style in many of his books, included “Manusia Setengah
Salmon”. This book is only one example among many books that have been written
by the author: Kambing Jantan, Marmut Merah Jambu, Cinta Brontosaurus, and etc.
This book and the other books written by Raditya Dika are often intended for
teenagers in junior and senior high school until young men of higher education
students.
Well, when I see the book’s cover, I must say that it attracts my attention
to know more about the story inside the book. The picture in the book’s cover
showing a man with a half fish face matches the tittle of the book “Manusia
Setengah Salmon”. Also, as a nonfiction-comedy book, the picture on the book’s
cover shows us that the story brought by the author must be funny. It is proven
by some parts of the book that always show funny thing.
There are a lot of funny stories in the book. Basically, “Manusia
Setengah Salmon” is a book telling about the author’s himself and his family,
start from his mother, father, his brothers, and his sisters. There are also
some parts of the book that tell about author’s observation which sounds a
little bit weird and also some writings collected from the author’s tweets in
Twitter.
I must say that there are a lot of slang words that can be found in the
book that sometimes are hard to be understood. I can understand that the use of
those slangs is addressed to support the comedy value that the author wants to
emphasize. However, the use of those words is sometimes too over. It makes the
readers often face some difficulties to understand the meaning of the story.
Perhaps the author wants to be closer to the readers by using those slang
words, but it must be remembered that not everyone in this country knows well
about a particular slang word.
Why this book worth to read because it's very entertaining and it contains a lot of moral message.
